Don Dorn was experiencing a father's most dreaded moment. His son lay in the emergency room suffering a life-threatening brain injury. Awaiting an outcome seemingly out of his control, all he could do was wrapped around his hands.

REFLECTION: Praying the Rosary is much more spiritual than you may realize. The spirituality comes from an ever-increasing internal peace in a crazy world, an awareness that no matter what the circumstances or situation, or even the outcome for that matter, you can gain an internal serenity.

VERSE: "Behold, now is a very acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation." 2 Corinthians 6:2b

Catholics have historically and with great faith viewed Mary as the person through whom the Savior comes, the One who will defeat evil on earth. Through the Rosary, we ask for her intercession.

St. Katharine Drexel parishioners have been praying the Rosary in groups since the parish was founded. The grace of the prayer to the Holy Mother has ignited the journey to Jesus for so many--whether through troubles and challenges in families, the loss of loved ones, of when everything in life seems darkest.

Parish Rosary Groups meet regularly to pray for an with each other and to be socially engaged. The Church is rooted in community. We encourage you to check out a Rosary Group. Please call the Parish Office for more information.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help us to realize we need help--Your help, and the help of those around us. None of us can do all things by ourselves, but together, in community, amazing things are possible. Help us to recognize when to ask for help and when to offer a hand. Amen.

"We wish to confirm once more that the task of evangelizing all people constitutes the essential mission of the Church. It is a task and mission which the vast and profound changes of present-day society make all the more urgent. Evangelizing is in fact the grace and vocation proper of the Church, her deepest identity. She exists in order to evangelize."
--from Pope Paul VI's letter on "Evangelization in the Modern World"

Welcome to St. Katharine Drexel Parish! Our parish was founded in 2004, and we moved into our new church and school in 2008.  The majority of our parishioners live on the west side of Sioux Falls, and others live in the surrounding countryside or other areas of Sioux Falls.  We strive to be a welcoming and inclusive parish where no one would feel like a stranger for very long.

At St. Katharine Drexel Parish, our most important activity is the celebration of the weekend Eucharistic liturgies and other sacraments.  We also have a heavy emphasis on faith formation for children, young people, and adults. In response to the call of Jesus and the example of St. Katharine Drexel, we are also involved in many social ministries in our community, especially service to those who lack material resources.

We always welcome visitors to our church, those who join us for liturgy and those who just want to drop by for a quiet prayer.  If you have no church family with whom to pray, please join us.

Are you new to our parish? We would love to have you become an active part of our faith community! Please stop after Mass and introduce yourself to Fr. Tschakert. He will give you a card of introduction to fill out. Or, you can request more information, ask a question or have someone contact you by filling out the simple form here. Welcome!
